Finding A Massage Therapist

There are a lot of things to consider when finding a massage therapist.  You may have many questions if you have never had a massage before.  Today, I am going to take the mystery out of what to look for when choosing a therapist

Check whether they are registered/certified and is a member of  the American Massage Therapy Association . Check to locate a member therapist near you.

Is the facility clean?

Are the linens changed between clients?

Bring a friend if you are uncomfortable being alone

Specify what type of massage you want – You may only need or want a hand or foot massage

Remember, you are paying for a service and you should feel comfortable in the setting.

Make sure the therapist provides the following before and during your massage:

Allows you privacy while you disrobe and provides a sheet to cover your body with while on the table

Before beginning the massage the therapist should ask what parts of the body you would like them to focus on

Asks for feedback regarding whether the massage is too hard or too gentle.

Immediately accommodates your requests for less or more intense pressure.

Questions to ask a massage therapist
Are you a certified Massage Therapist

How long have you been practicing?

What types of massage do you specialize in?

What types of massage do you recommend for my condition?

What kinds of oils or lotions do you use?

Will there be any after-effects from the massage?

Do I need to check with my medical doctor before having massage?

How much does a massage cost?

Can I claim this session on my medical insurance?

Enjoy the power of massage.  You deserve it!
